keep in mind that another snow event is predicted for sometime on Monday for
this area. It is really too soon to know exact timing and path of the storm, so
I am not cancelling Monday's trip to Shark River yet. We still might be able to
get it in. I will wait until the last minute - even Monday morning - to make a
decision. If anyone planning to come does not hear anything by Sunday sometime
on the trip being cancelled, please call me after 5:00AM on Monday morning to
be sure the trip is still on. Keep in mind also that even if the storm doesn't
hit up north in the Shark River area, if it hits down here in south Jersey, I
am delayed with work and still might have to cancel. Thank you.<br>

will hit the North Shore region of New Jersey for wintering birds. This area includes
some great ocean overlooks and fantastic ponds that attract a great variety of
wintering birds. We will spend time scanning the ocean and hitting the ponds to
see what waterfowl is around. This trip will go in most any weather conditions
except for unsafe driving conditions. If any doubt, please call me the day
before. Dress in layers and be prepared for most any weather from salt spray,
to strong winds, to well below freezing temps, to rain. We will have many
opportunities for bathroom breaks and buying and eating meals.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>This
area has produced a variety of rarities in the past depending on weather and
the movements of the birds. We will chase any known rarities and hopefully find
one or two of our own. Birds such as Snowy Owl, Common Redpoll, Little Gull,
Black-headed Gull, Razorbill, Pacific Loon, Western Grebe, and Eurasian Wigeon
have all been seen in the area in various years.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>We
will meet at the south side Shark River Inlet ocean overlook at 10:30AM.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Directions:
Here's how I go from south Jersey. Take Rt. 295 north to Rt. 195 east.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Go
to the end. You are now on Rt. 138. Take this to the end. Merge onto Rt. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>35
north. Continue on Rt. 35 north to 10th St. Turn right - east - and continue to
the "T" intersection at the ocean. Turn left - north - and continue
until you come to the drawbridge over the inlet. Do NOT cross the drawbridge.

us as we search for wintering waterfowl, gulls, seabirds and other late winter
visitors. Besides birding Indian River Inlet and Rehoboth Bay, we will stop at
Silver Lake, Cape Henlopen State Park, Prime Hook and Bombay Hook as we bird
our way back north. Dress for the weather, bring lunch and scopes. Meet at the
parking lot on the north side of the Indian River Inlet at 9am. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

20 (Saturday) - PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP: BARNEGAT LIGHTHOUSE STATE PARK, OCEAN COUNTY,
NJ<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>This
field trip will focus on getting some good photographs of wintering gulls and
waterfowl at Barnegat Light. Almost no effort will be made to find rarities.
We’ll plan to walk the jetty, find cooperative birds and photograph them.
Target birds include Red-throated Loons, Common Loon, Long-tailed Ducks,
Scoters, Purple Sandpipers, Eiders, Snow Buntings and Ipswich Sparrow --
basically whatever we find. A King Eider showed up for our much-delayed trip in
2008. Whether you're new to photography or a pro, you're welcome on this trip.
I will be shooting almost exclusively with a Digital SLR and 300mm lens.
Digiscopers and more traditional photographers are both welcome, and we'll do
our best to find some subjects for everyone. If interested, contact Steve Kacir
and let him know whether you'll be digiscoping or just using a camera. Some
information about your lens will also help in planning our approach to this
trip. The trip will last about half a day. In case of foul weather the trip
will be rescheduled. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

6 (Saturday) MIDDLE CREEK WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA, PA <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

Snow Geese spectacle will be the main show at this wildlife management area in
Kleinfeltersville. Thousands of Snow Geese and Tundra Swans stage here in late
winter into early spring during their northward migration. A variety of species
of ducks may be found on the ponds and lakes here. Meadows and fields host a
variety of birds preferring open habitat. Bald Eagles are seen regularly. Birder
photographers may enjoy the opportunity to digitally capture the Snow Geese
flocks and low-flying Tundra Swans. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
