event was last week and if you have not heard, our team, the Nikon / DVOC Lagerhead
Shrikes, placed first overall with a total of 229 species for the day. The club
congratulates the team for this accomplishment and for bringing honor to the
club.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>The
World Series of Birding the primary way the club raises money for conservation.
Some members have donated a fixed amount and others made pledges based on the
number of species. If you made a pledge you will be contacted (or already have
been) by a member of the Conservation Committee. Your interest in this matter
is greatly appreciated. If you have not donated yet and did not make a pledge,
it is not too late. Your donation can be sent to the DVOC Treasurer (Bert
Filemyr, 1314 Lenore Road, Meadowbrook, PA 19046). All donations are fully tax
deductable.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

a Big Day in May has been a tradition at DVOC. Get together with some friends, pick
a single 24-hour day, a birding location, and see how many species of birds you
can find. Afterwards, download the DVOC Big Day Report Form, fill it out, and
submit your results to Frank Windfelder. If you wish, come to the June 4th DVOC
meeting and tell us about it in person. This includes teams participating in
the New Jersey World Series of Birding&quot;<o:p></o:p></span></p>

May is an excellent time for breeding birds in the Poconos and northern New
Jersey. Among the more common species our targets will be breeding Cerulean and
possibly Golden-winged Warblers. We'll stop at the Gap and then cross the river
and continue birding in the Layton area of New Jersey and then will head back
to Pennsylvania via Alpha. Targets there will be Grasshopper Sparrow and

is a half day trip that meets in the early evening. We will focus on hearing
and seeing nightjars, especially Common Nighthawks performing their Booming
displays. We will also make some efforts to hear and see Barred Owl and
Whip-poor-will. Chuck&#8217;s-will&#8217;s-widow has also been heard calling in
the area in past years, though not in recent years. The trip will meet at the
Carranza Memorial (between Atsion and Chatsworth) at 6:00PM. In case of foul
weather, the trip will be rescheduled.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

10 (Wednesday) &#8211; LAKEHURST NAVAL AIR STATION for UPLAND SANDPIPERS, NJ<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

<p class=MsoPlainText><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>It
has been 4 years since we were last able to run this very special trip. The
grasslands here are the best annual site in NJ for seeing the breeding displays
of Upland Sandpipers. We also expect Grasshopper, Vesper, Field and Savannah
Sparrows, Horned Lark, Eastern Meadowlark, Bobolink and in the pine forests
Pine Warbler. Each participant will need a valid driver&#8217;s license or
picture ID. Our stay in the Jump Zone grasslands will be 3 hours.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

must register with Bob Horton for this trip in advance. This trip is limited to
