The Delaware Valley Ornithological Club (DVOC) Weekly Update
Upcoming Field Trips: (Details at www.dvoc.org <http://www.dvoc.org/> under
"Field Trips")
Saturday August 18 - Brigantine NWR, New Jersey
A trip to catch the later wave of the shorebird migration spectacle. Meet
8:00 am at the refuge headquarters.
Leader: Martin Selzer
Saturday September 8 - Bird Banding and Fall Warblers at East Park Reservoir
Plan this as an early start in tandem with the Club's 10 am informal meeting
at the Zoo (less than a mile away), followed by a tour of zoo grounds and
photo opportunities there. See the banding in progress and explore all the
site's oaks/maples/bushes/water edges at the height of the fall warbler
migratory season. This is a site of long historical interest to past DVOC
stalwarts like Ed Fingerhood and Dave Cutler.
7:30 am - 9:30 am
Leaders Doris McGovern and Chris Walters
The AOU is Coming to Philadelphia
The 2009 American Ornithologists' Union meeting will be held in Philadelphia
August 11-19, 2009. The AOU has asked DVOC to take the lead in planning
field trips and providing field trip leaders. More information about this
will be available as the meeting dates come closer.

Vireo Needs Help
<http://vireo.acnatsci.org/> VIREO, at the Academy of Natural Sciences in
Philadelphia, is in the middle of providing photographs for two national
field guides and one regional guide. Matt Sharp will be going to grad school
and will be cutting his hours way back. Vireo is looking for someone who is
good at aging and sexing North American birds and is adept with computers to
help us out. Vireo could either use two or three volunteers who would spend
a day or two a week, or potentially they could hire someone for a month or
so. If you are interested contact:
